This week on Love Your Bodd, Heather sits down with Kelsey Lane Davidson - an expert in finding a balance when it comes to fitness. Kelsey is a strength and conditioning coach that helps you get fit in the chaos that is life. She has a background in university athletics, corporate wellness and helping everyday folks getting fitter. Additionally, Kelsey is a wife, dog mom, multi-passionate entrenpeur, podcaster and actress.

In this episode we talk about health and fitness as it relates to stress, hormones, and the chaos that is live. 

Kelsey gives us some tangible tips on being more intentional when it comes to our relationship with fitness but also that there’s an ebb and flow.

Hello, Lovers! Today on Love Your Bodd we have an interview with Sara Grey! She's the founder and CEO of WANNABE™, host of Power the Hustle Podcast, and she does so much more. 

 

We discuss SO MUCH in this episode including Sara growing up an athlete and her different insecurities growing up. We also discuss her TRIUMPHS and how she was a struggling single mom with a newborn who got to law school and became a lawyer. We talk about her decision to ADD to her career and start her own business: WANNABE™. We also talk about what that decision was like for her and how messy it is and I LOVE everything she says when she talks about making it all WORK.

We also talk about FEAR and how fear sometimes makes decisions for us but she gives some great advice about not letting fear decide. And then, one of my favorite things we talk about in this episode, we talk about how the fitness industry is an industry of insecurity and we have a really fascinating discussion on how to bridge the gap between shaming people's bodies because they look a certain way and shaming a person because they want to change their body.

In this episode of Love Your Bodd, Heather reflects on her experiences traveling this week and reminds herself to take better care of her body in her future travels. 

She talks about the importance of hydration, the normalcy of bloating, and ways that you can/should incorporate movement into your travels to keep blood flowing in dat bodd. 

She ends by talking about some fun and inspiring experiences she had that started with a CIZE class on the beach, and ended in a fully choreographed dance at the reception of her friend's wedding. Life is incredible.

Welcome back, Lovers! This week on Love Your Bodd, Heather interviews Brock J, a Cosplayer she met at New York Comic Con. 

The first half of the episode focuses on cosplay and Brock’s upbringings in foster care. The second half of the episode dives DEEP into Brock’s fitness journey and his recovery experience after having his leg shattered in an accident. 

Not only is he a cosplayer, he's also very into health & self-improvement. He has a deep connection to his body thanks to MMA and Yoga. His experience with yoga was transformative in helping him heal post-injury. He's also a competitive power lifter and a member of the US Coast Guard. "I felt like jumping on the rooftops & going 'okay, wait a minute, there's stuff we can do! We don't need to spend thousands and thousands of dollars at a fertility clinic, we can step back here, listen to what your body is saying, and make major change!'" - Sarah Clark, Fertility, Lifestyle, & Health Coach 

 

This week's guest is an intelligent woman who specializes in fertility. If you are up for having your mind blown, tune in. In this episode, Heather and Sarah dig deep about a mind-body connection and all the effects that NOT listening to your body can have on you. What you eat, how you feel, your physical health, mental health, environmental stressors, genes, etc are ALL connected and can have a major impact on the way you live. These things can also affect fertility which is why Sarah's practice focuses so much on the mind-body connection when it comes to your ability to reproduce. 

Sarah was in her mid twenties when she discovered she had Premature Ovarian Failure (POF) but she didn't let that deter her from having her first child via (IVF) In-vitro Fertilization. She was sick all the time, spending way to much money, and suppressed her feelings of not being able to conceive naturally. After much hard work, she was able to have success with IVF of her second child but she still hadn't taken her health into her own hands. Both of her children have food intolerances that, in theory, may have been preventable if she had taken better care of her body and listened to the way it was whispering to her. 

Fast forward to Sarah in her 40s, newly awoken after taking a life coaching course - which led her to take a health coaching course - where she discovered all of her own food sensitivities. She thought about how this may have affected her ability to conceive and that curiosity led to her practices as a Fertility Coach today, and her "Get Pregnant Naturally" podcast, where she helps women do just that - get pregnant naturally.

Goal Weight. Let's talk about it. Pretty much everyone has one. That number in the back of your mind that you strive for every day. That number that you pray is on the scale every time you step on. Hoping each time to be closer. Maybe you are at your goal weight! Wow! Congratulations, you are one of the few! What would happen though, if you stepped on the scale and you weren't anymore? 

In today's episode of Love Your Bodd, Heather explains why having a goal weight is actually depleting your happiness instead of giving you something motivational to work on. By the end of the episode, you will learn different ways to frame your health goals so that you aren't focused on the number on the scale. 

Setpoint/Appestat: 

  • The weight you maintain when you listen and respond to your body's signals of hunger and fullness.
  • The weight you maintain when you don't fixate on your weight or food habits.
  • The weight you keep returning to between diets.

4 Ways Your Goal Weight is "Weighing You Down": 

  1. Your weight is not an accurate measure of your physical health OR progress. 
    • You cannot physically measure blood pressure, cholesterol, heart disease, any of the internal factors that are said to be caused by being "overweight" by stepping on a scale. 
    • Muscle weighs more than fat!

Does your career rely heavily on what you look like? For most dancers and models, body image can be a huge issue. 

In this episode of Love Your Bodd, Heather talks to an old friend, Rachel Eten, about what it was like to grow up as a dancer and later, what it's like to have a professional modeling career. Luckily, Rachel has been able to stay sane and keep control over her own body in industries where it is common to feel like other people have control over it.

Yay Lovers!!! Welcome back to Love Your Bodd! I hope you will take some time to LOVE YOURSELF this Valentine's Day! 

Here are 14 ways to take care of yourself - according to Host, Heather Boddy: 

 

1. Listen to a podcast! Hey! Good job you’re doing that! 
 
 
2. Sit still and take 3 deep breaths, totally filling up the lungs, in thru the nose out through the mouth. Add a layer and try practicing meditation. There are apps and audios for guided meditation if you feel like you need clarity on something specific and don’t know where to begin. (Try Headspace) 
 
 
3. Get Fresh AIR! Outside. Walk, run, open the window. 
 
 
4. Take a a hot bath - and salts, scents, candles and music to set the mood. 
 
 
5. Read a good book, either something you’ve been meaning to pick up or go back to a favorite that will bring you some comfort. (You can also do this with a movie or TV show but there’s just something about snuggling up with a good book ya know?) 
 
 
6. Listen to your favorite song. Or a pump you up Playlist. Really JAM to it!!!! 
 
 
7.  Brain dump journal entry.
 
 
8. Call someone you care about, catch up, tell them how much they mean to you. 
 
 
9. Meet one on one with a friend. Grab coffee, food, or hang at home. People who keep close relationships live longer! 
 
 
10.  Look in the mirror and give yourself a genuine compliment (or three)
 
 
11.  Do something difficult that you’ve been putting off.
 
 
12. Date/Treat Yo Self!
 
 
13. Get creative! Expressing yourself creatively is very therapeutic. 
 
 
14. Write out what self care looks like for you specifically.

"If you quantify your wellness, it's probably not wellness." - James Rose

 

James is a young fitness professional finishing up their Musical Theater Degree at NYU. In this episode, we talk about a myriad of things including: how they have NEVER taken a bite of meat (nor tasted alcohol for that matter), getting asked about having an eating disorder, body comparing as an actor, getting naked and posting it on social media (and why), and how they have shaped a "feel good" wellness routine for themself.

Kayden Rose, former Community Events Coordinator of Fit4All, is a dancer & dance fitness instructor who has recovered from eating disorders and is a supporter/advocate for the body positivity movement. 

What is Thin Privilege? Fat Phobia? What is the weight that comes with the word "weight?" Kayden Rose can explain it. They are very well-versed in these technical terms that are important to understand. One fascinating quality of Kayden is that they are constantly learning and growing and adapting their ideas. They are not set on one way of thinking, they keep a fluid and open mind the more they learn - whether in fitness, the body positivity movement, or the way they view their own body, etc. They share all of this and so much more in this episode.
